MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A federal judge has dismissed a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of a man killed by a Brooklyn Center police officer.

U.S. District Court Judge David Doty ruled Monday Officer Ryan Soliday was justified in using deadly force against 24-year-old Edmond Fair during a traffic stop in August 2013. Soliday and his partner were called to help with an unruly guest at a local motel.

The officers pulled over a minivan that sped out of the motel parking lot. Court documents say Fair was driving the minivan and became increasingly agitated during the traffic stop. He struggled with the officers as they tried to handcuff him, grabbed a Taser and shocked them both.

Soliday told investigators he shot Fair when he reached for his partner's gun.
