Family: Former St. Cloud City Council Member Dies from A Broken Heart

ST. CLOUD - A former St. Cloud city council member, and his wife, have died less than 14 hours apart.

Eighty-three-year-old Irene Wahl died on Saturday at the Sterling Park Health Care Center in Waite Park, following a 14-year-old battle with Parkinson's Disease. And, after losing the love of his life, John Wahl died at St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 84. His official cause of death is listed as congestive heart failure, but friends and family know that it was more likely of a broken heart.

The couple had been married for 62 years, after meeting in Avon.They were married at Holy Angels Church in St Cloud on January 3, 1953. They had three children.

Wahl sat on the St. Cloud City Council for eight years in the 1960s, including four as Council President. He also served several years as a member of the St. Cloud Area School Board.
