Additional Information

(AAUW) St. Cloud Branch (1922 - 2016) presents an evening of “Inspiration and Empowerment” Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Courtyard by Marriott, Saint Germain from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.stcloud-mn.aauw.net. The price is $55.00 per person with a ten percent discount for purchasing tickets for a table of ten. The evening includes an inspirational presentation by Lindsay Walz, a silent auction, dinner, cash bar, and live music by St. Cloud State international student, Sruthi Shankar who will play a South Indian classical instrument called a Veena and local pianist Gerald Lederer who will play “oldies and show tunes.” The public is invited to attend the event.
Lindsay Walz, a survivor of the 35W Bridge collapse, will tell her story and the transformation of her life after tumbling into the Mississippi River in her car and facing the uncertainty of survival. Lindsay holds her M.Ed. from the University of Minnesota, where she was named a Rising Alumni in 2014. In 2012, she completed the NorthStar Youth Worker Fellowship. In 2013, she was nationally recognized for her work at courageous heARTS by the Arts and Healing Network.
Funds raised at the event will be used to send area college women to a national leadership conference and to support local women and girls’ initiatives. Through an application process area college women are selected to attend the annual National Conference of College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) at the University of Maryland. Past recipients have said the experience is life changing according to Linda MacLeod, a local AAUW member. Tech Savvy is also made possible by AAUW and our university partners, St. Cloud State University and the College of Saint Benedict. This event introduces middle school girls to careers in science, technology, engineering and math. The second annual Tech Savvy event is scheduled for January 2017. Additionally, an Ellingson grant supports area high school artists and a Community Grant is awarded to local women’s businesses or nonprofits.
