SARTELL -- We kick off our coverage of several upcoming general elections by highlighting the Sartell City Council race.

Four candidates, Ryan Fitzhum, Timothy Held, Mike Chisum, and Ryan Golombecki Sr. are running for the two open seats. Incumbents, Steve Hennes and Amy Braig-Linstrom, have both chosen not to run for re-election.

The election is on Tuesday November 8th. The top two finishers will represent the city of Sartell. The first place vote-getter will take over immediately to finish out the term left by Amy Braig-Linstrom who resigned in September, before starting their official term in January.

Timothy Held has lived in Sartell for 44 years and has been very involved in the city. He was a reserve officer for 10 years and was involved in the Parks Department for seven years. He says he’s been thinking of other ways to get involved in the community and felt city council would be a good fit.

“I’ve given it a lot of thought over the years. I’ve applied a few times to be on the Parks Commission, this opportunity came up and I thought it be a good fit for me. I thought this would be a good way to continue my commitment to the city,” says Held.

Held says Sartell has done a great work over the years in growing the community. He also wants to follow in his fathers footsteps, who also served time on the council. Held is married with three kids and is currently as stay at home dad.

MIKE CHISUM

Mike Chisum has lived in the Sartell area for about eight years. He works as a prosecutor in Morrison County and is married with three children. He says he decided to run because he felt a disconnect between the city and it’s residents.

“I’ve been talking to people and I hear the same thing, city hall is not responsive. No body is hearing us. So I want to be a fresh set of eyes and ears for the problems facing the community,” says Chisum.

Chisum says he wants to put a stronger focus on infrastructure and public safety. He says he would like to see an increase is police officers and squad cars. He would also like to see a stronger focus in road repair.
