MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — An Eden Prairie man is charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the stabbing death of his pregnant wife and their prematurely born child.

Thirty-year-old Yevgeniy Savenok remains jailed with bail set at $5 million.

According to the criminal complaint, Savenok told police his wife, 23-year-old Lyuba Savenok, was going to take his children away from him, and he saw no other way out when he attacked her Saturday. He then drove off with their two children, ages 3 and 4.

The autopsy found she bled to death from around 12 stab wounds, while her unborn child died of premature birth in an emergency C-section.

Court records don't list an attorney for Yevgeniy Savenok. The complaint says he has a history of domestic assault against his wife in both Minnesota and Illinois.
