DULUTH (AP) - The city of Duluth is offering free rent to aspiring retailers at six vacant downtown storefronts over the holidays.

Greater Downtown Council president Kristi Stokes says the city if offering the space on a first-come, first-served basis. Shops need to set up by Nov. 30 and stay open at least until Jan. 10. The spaces range from a small shop in the downtown skywalk to a large space that once housed a hardware store.

The city is offering the rent-free space for two or three months, but participants will pay their own utilities.
