ST. CLOUD - Senior citizens in the St. Cloud metro area have been busy buying their new memberships to the Whitney Senior Center.

Aging Services Director Laura Hood says they kicked-off the membership drive on December 1st, and they've already processed a lot of applications.

People have been getting their badges and they're getting themselves all set to go for the first of the year, and all of the programming that we're going to be rolling out. We've been very encouraged by the amount of interest that we've been seeing.

Hood says St. Cloud residents will be charged $10 for a year membership, the city is paying the other $40 of the $50 fee.

On Monday the Waite Park City Council voted to by down memberships for their residents too. Waite Park has allocated $2,500 for the program.

Earlier this year the St. Cloud City Council voted to charge an annual membership fee to Whitney Senior Center for the first time ever. It starts on January 1st.
