Deer Hunter Dies After Being Shot Near Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) – Authorities in Beltrami County say a Bemidji man has died after being shot while hunting on public land.

The sheriff’s office says it received a call Saturday at 9 a.m. that a deer hunter had been shot by another hunter in Turtle River Township, about nine miles northeast of Bemidji.

Rescue officials found the man dead at the scene.

Authorities say the shooter was a Bemidji man who knew the victim but wasn’t hunting with him. The shooter was released pending an investigation.

The sheriff’s office says an autopsy is pending.
