ST. PAUL  (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton will deliver his first State of the State speech to lawmakers next month.

Dayton's office said Thursday that the address is scheduled for Feb. 9 before a joint session of the Legislature in the Minnesota House chamber.

The governor's address will come after he has been in office about five weeks. He was sworn in Jan. 3, becoming the state's first Democratic governor in two decades.

Dayton's is a former U.S. senator who won the governor's office after a close election that required a recount. He is the state's 40th governor.
