WATERVILLE (AP) - Fire crews from several departments are battling a blaze in downtown Waterville, in southern Minnesota.

Photos posted online by KEYC-TV show flames and black smoke billowing from a building.

Mayor Steve Mihalik tells The Associated Press that the fire started around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, and a number of buildings were on fire, including businesses and apartments. He says multiple families have been displaced and businesses have been lost.

Mihalik says that at this time, there are no reports of injuries or deaths.

He says it's too early to report on the fire's cause. Mihalik says the police chief has reported that the buildings will have to be torn down.

He says the Red Cross is assisting families who have been affected.
