COON RAPIDS (AP) - A suburban Minneapolis home where more than 200 snakes reside has passed a local inspection.

Authorities in Coon Rapids began keeping an eye on the house several years ago after neighbors complained about a foul smell coming from the yard. Inspectors found the house contained about 300 snakes, including boas and pythons, which are prohibited because they are constrictor snakes.

Homeowner Scott Nellis removed the prohibited snakes. A compliance check on Wednesday went smoothly.

Nellis says his passion for snakes started when he was a boy and would often see snakes in the grass while walking home from school in Oklahoma. He says some people like aquarium fish. He likes snakes.

Nellis says his snakes don't bother anyone. They're in secure cages, in secure rooms in his secure home.
