SARTELL -- Plans for another roundabout in Sartell are starting to take shape.

Tonight (Monday) the Sartell City Council unanimously approved a plan to move forward with the roundabout project proposed for Stearns County Road 133 and 19th Avenue North.

City Engineer Mike Nielson says the next step is to submit the roundabout plans to MnDot.

The cost was expected to be around $450,000, but now the city is looking at the project costing about $870,000.

Nielson says the increased cost has to do with 19th Avenue not being as wide as County Road 133.

About $625,000 will be covered by federal transportation funds. Sartell paid about $27,000 for right of way and will pay about $184,000 for construction costs.

The intersection has been the site of a number of crashes, due to speeding. Nielson says the roundabout should help limit that problem.

Construction for the roundabout is expected to begin in July, with completion of the project this fall.
