Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Church of Our Lady, Manannah, MN for Caroline C. Lahr, age 84, who passed away on November 1, 2014 at Cherrywood Advanced Living, Richmond, MN. Fr. Brian Mandel will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Eden Valley, MN. The family extends much gratitude to St. Croix Hospice and Cherrywood Advanced Living (Richmond) for the wonderful care they provided to Caroline.

Caroline was born on April 28, 1930, Union Grove Township, to Blasius and Anna (Meyer) Scheierl. She was the youngest of eleven children and spent her early years in the shadow of her older siblings, learning from them as they all worked on the family farm. Caroline married Math Lahr on April 15, 1950 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Paynesville, MN. They farmed in the Grove City area until buying a farm near Manannah, MN, on which they lived for fifty years, retiring in 1995. After “retiring,” they continued to live on the farm while renting the land. Caroline was truly a life partner for Math and was always there to help with some of the farm work when an extra hand was needed. She loved her large vegetable garden and flower beds and they were a source of personal pride and gave her great peace and contentment. Caroline also helped keep their rather large lawn mowed, as she and Math basically had their own half, each with their own his/her riders. She enjoyed canning and making jelly and nothing could beat her canned tomatoes and green beans - oh how they are missed. Our Mom loved collecting recipes and could create the most fantastic meals, sometimes without any forethought - her apple rolls were the absolute best. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, and cross word puzzles. What patience she had with those puzzles! Caroline was also a voracious reader and loved debating world events. Family and her faith meant everything to her.

On November 1, 2010, Caroline and Math moved to Assumption Court Apartments, Cold Spring, MN, realizing it was finally time to end the pressures of owning and maintaining a farm. In August, 2014 they moved together (as they always had been) to Cherrywood Advanced Living, Richmond, MN, where Caroline lived out her final days.

Caroline is survived by her children, Diane Boben of Walker, Mike (Brenda) of Eden Valley, Susan Kelly of Eden Prairie, Robert of Bloomington; grandchildren, Mickael (Brandon) Stuve, Matt Lahr, Jim, Marissa and Dillon Kelly; great grandchildren, Connor and Taylen Stuve; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons-in-law, Terence Boben and Kevin Kelly; brothers, George, Sylvester, Joseph, twins: Henry and William, John, Anton, William; and sisters, Marie and Catherine.

Caroline will be greatly missed by her family, but she is now with God and can live on in peace. May God Bless.
