Byron L. Houghtelin, age 79, Waite Park, MN, died Friday, November 27, 2015 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Private family funeral services were held. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.

Byron was born March 5, 1936 in Chatfield, MN to Arthur N. and Winifred R. (McDonald) Houghtelin. He grew up in Chatfield, MN. Byron married Beverly Nelson on December 11, 1959. He was employed as an architectural draftsman for Bissel Blair and Green and later for Smiley Goltter, retiring in 2001. Byron enjoyed coin collecting, model trains, scale model cars, auctions, and Boundary Waters Wilderness.

Survivors include sons, Scott (April) Houghtelin of St. Joseph, MN; Michael W. Houghtelin of Colorado Springs, CO; Steven (Nancy) Houghtelin of Elk River, MN; sister, Janita “Nita” Parr of Enid, OK; six grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, Christopher and Kayla Houghtelin, Misty Ferrell and Desiree Lee; and four great grandchildren, William, Kylie and Lydia Houghtelin, and Lexi Ferrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly on October 10, 1996; son, Mark Houghtelin; three brothers, Dale, Roger and Gary; and two sisters, Dorothy “Hope” and Sandy.
