ST. PAUL (AP) - A Brooklyn Park man has pleaded guilty in a car crash that severely injured his two children.

46-year-old Earl Ward pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of criminal vehicular operation and violating a no-contact order with the children's mother. His plea didn't come with a deal for sentencing.

Ward admitted he crashed a car when he apparently hit a pothole in St. Paul in July. His 14-year-old daughter sustained a spinal fracture that left her a quadriplegic. His 8-year-old son suffered a broken femur.

The children's mother called police. Ward left the scene without reporting the incident.

Ward says he knew his children were injured when he left.

Ward will be sentenced in January.
