ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A 14-year-old boy faces charges in juvenile court for allegedly stealing an idling school bus from a St. Paul gas station and crashing it in Roseville.

The Ramsey County Attorney's Office filed a petition against the teen for felony motor vehicle theft and two charges of felony criminal damage to property.

The boy appeared in court Tuesday afternoon. Against the recommendation of prosecutors, the boy was released to his parents under the supervision of the Ramsey County Intensive Supervision Program.

Authorities say the driver had left the empty bus running Monday morning while she stopped for coffee. Police say the boy jumped aboard and took the bus on a two-mile ride before crashing it at another gas station.

The boy's next court appearance is set for March 6.
