Bountiful Grain Harvest Creats Storage Shortage

UNDATED (AP) - The wet spring and warm summer has created a bountiful harvest for Minnesota grain farmers.

Now some are wondering where to store their crop while they hope for better market prices.

Tyler Sunderman is a seventh-generation farmer in Le Sueur. Sunderman harvested his last 100 acres of corn west of St. Peter Tuesday and had no problem filling semis holding 56,000 pounds of grain each. They were trucked to his grain elevator in nearby Cleveland.

Sunderman says for the first time he will store some of his grain on the ground in two piles totaling about 200,000 bushels. He had the local high school wrestling team come over to help cover the piles with huge tarps. He says the corn will have to be moved before spring rain soaks the ground underneath.
