MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A BNSF Railway employee has died in a rail yard accident in northeast Minneapolis.

BNSF spokeswoman Amy McBeth says employees were unloading track material Monday when a locomotive passing by on another track struck the material, causing it to fall on the worker. The worker suffered fatal injuries.

Police and fire crews responded to accident, which happened before noon. Deputy Fire Chief Todd White says that although there was no fire or smoke from the accident, heavy equipment had to be moved. He says the victim was part of an eight-person crew working in the area.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of relatives.
