Bernard Edward Lunak, age 85, of St. Cloud, formerly of Grand Forks, ND, went to be with his lord on June 4, 2016.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 11:00 am at Benson Funeral Home St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.

Born and raised in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Frank and Stella Lunak, Barney was also a long time resident of Cushing, MN; Branson, MO; and St. Cloud, MN. In his early years, he took pride in serving our country as a Private in the Marines from 1945 to 1947 in San Diego, CA. In 1948 he began a long career with what is now the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and retired in1993. Barney liked to keep busy and not to any of our surprise, he didn’t really retire. Among his many added jobs, he most enjoyed working as an usher with the Shoji Tabuchi Theater in Branson, MO.

He leaves his loved and adoring wife of 30 years, Doris (Rodewald) Lunak; sister, Carol Dameron, Sun City West, AZ; children, Jerry (Cindy) Lunak, Dallas, TX; Michael (Patty) Lunak, Fargo, ND, Patrick (Mary) Lunak, Grand Forks, ND, Susan (Dave) Como, Pelican Rapids, MN, Lorie (Jerry Feltis) Lunak, Grand Forks, ND, Cathy (Rick) Galstad, Grand Forks, ND, Jacqueline (Kirk) Seaver, Rugby, ND, Pam (Jim) Weld, Columbus, IN, Ron Walters, Minong, WI, Christine (Tom) Schwalen, River Falls, WI and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Barney was preceded in death by his first wife and loving mother of his children, Colleen (Boushee) Lunak; a son, Duane Lunak; brothers, Frank Lunak Jr., Johnny Lunak, Benjamin Lunak, and sister, Mae Lien.

We will always carry you in our hearts, and in our memory, we will be sure to shake a leg whenever we hear a tune by “The King of Soul”, Mr. James Brown.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff members at the St. Cloud Hospital for the wonderful care they provided.
