Alex Svejkovsky

St. Cloud has always been a second home to me. After growing up in the town of Paynesville, I moved to Sartell to begin my college career at St. Cloud State University, majoring in Mass Communications. In my time there I mostly focused on the television side of things, spending most of my time with the campus television station UTVS. While at UTVS I did many roles such as news anchor, reporter and sports anchor for our many live newscasts. I even did play by play for the football and basketball games that we had televised. However, I didn’t just limit myself to television. While putting myself through school I worked with Leighton Broadcasting in their sports department, doing many things behind the scenes and over the air. Upon my graduation from St. Cloud State in 2012, I began to find that first opportunity to enter the broadcast journalism world and to my excitement landed here at WJON as a field reporter/news anchor. I love what I do and can honestly say that I never think of my job as work. Outside of the news room my pastimes include sports, music, hanging with my family and just enjoying the great Minnesota weather.

This week in our "Fitness Friday" series on WJON, we help keep kids active with the BLEND Fit Kids Club Series. BLEND (Better Living: Exercise and Nutrition Daily) has been fighting to reduce childhood obesity in the St. Cloud area since 2006 and today (Friday) kicks off a series of fun runs.

United Way Inspires Kids to Read 1 Million Times Over [VIDEO]

A St. Joseph family had a story book ending yesterday (Thursday) after receiving a special gift. It's always hard to put a good book down. United Way of Central Minnesota Imagination Library has been putting books in the hands of kids in the area since 2005.

Sartell Talks About Adding A Solar Garden To City

Sartell officials are contemplating the idea of adding a solar garden within the city. A presentation was giving during tonight's (Monday) city council meeting by representatives of SolarStone to discuss the possibility of leasing city owned property for the use of the solar garden.

Plans and Bids Approved For Phase 1 of Pinecone Road Improvements

The final approval has been passed in the upcoming Pinecone Road Improvements set to begin this summer. Plans and bids for Phase 1 of the project were approved by the Sartell city council tonight (Monday) by a 4-1 vote.

New Life Church in Foley Still Has Sights Set On New Building

Once the ground thaws shovels are ready to begin construction on a new building for a church in Foley. New Life Church was hoping to start construction on their new building back in August, but do to poor soil conditions and extensive site preparation Pastor Jim Von Wald says they felt it was best to wait until Spring.
