Audrey A. Speed, 93, St. Cloud

March 5, 1923 - August 26, 2016

Audrey Alletta Speed, age 93, St. Cloud, MN died Friday, August 26, 2016 at her home.

Funeral services will be on September 7th at 11:00 am at Calvary Community Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.

Audrey was born March 5, 1923 in Pioneer, Ohio to Seymour S. and Minnie A. (Herington) Long. The family moved to Minnesota in 1933. She graduated from Washington High School, Brainerd, MN. Audrey married Russell D. Speed on May 31, 1941 in Brainerd, MN. Audrey was employed at J.B. Hudson Co in Minneapolis. While living in Brainerd she worked for Time Jewelry, and from 1959 – 1969 she worked for C. L. Nelson Co. The family then moved to St. Cloud, MN in 1970 where she worked for the Germain Hotel and then for the City of St. Cloud, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Calvary Community Church, St. Cloud, MN.

Audrey enjoyed her service with Meals on Wheels and Reading for the Blind. She was an intrepid traveler, enjoying both domestic and international destinations. Golf was a passion of hers and she was a long time member of both Wapicada and Angushire golf clubs. Reading constantly she devoured book after book. Audrey loved her church family and friends and hoped that her gentle model of faith could serve as a witness for Christ. Audrey was proud of her family.

Survivors include daughters, Nancy Cameron of Scottsdale, AZ and Kathy Speed of Denver, CO; brother, Willis Long of Palm Desert, CA; sister, Mary Ann Heisel of Auburn, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Russell, on Sept. 19, 1996, and four brothers, Harold, Ernest, Elmer, and Lewis.
