As winter turned to spring and the grass started to turn green and the trees were just beginning to bud, Alvina Johnson left this world to go home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband Elmer. Alvina was born on June 12, 1922 in St. Cloud, MN to John and Catherine Chaika. Alvina enjoyed life to the fullest. She attended grade school at Holy Angels in St. Cloud and graduated from Tech High School. Alvina was united in marriage to her one and only true love, Elmer H. Johnson on July 13, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. After the war they made their home in St. Cloud, MN where they owned and operated a Skelly Service Station from 1951 – 1976.
Alvina was the loving mother of two children, but many others also think of her as “mom”. The neighborhood kids loved to come to her house and she was a favorite among her many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as someone who was always there for you sharing her wisdom, strength and kindness with everyone she encountered. Alvina was loved by everyone and had endless friendships with many that lasted until this day. Alvina loved to go to the casino, play cards, bingo and socialize with her many friends. Alvina was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Waite Park, MN and St. Anne’s Confraternity of Christian Women.
Those left behind to honor and cherish her life include her children, Beverly (Patrick) Riley of St. Cloud and Robert (Lori) of Waite Park; her three wonderful grandchildren, Michael Riley and Shawna and Devin Johnson. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, in-laws and close family friends that adored her; along with her friends at Sterling Park Apartments. Alvina was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer (1988); an infant daughter; her parents, John and Catherine Chaika; brothers and sisters, Arthur Chaika, Walter Chaika, Norbert Chaika, Fred “Fritz” Chaika, Ceil Lindemann, Clarence Harves and Irene Hanisch.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Michael Riley, Shawna and Devin Johnson, and family friends, Leroy Hanisch, Jerry Robbins and Charles Curtis.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Quiet Oaks Hospice Care. Alvina’s family would like to thank Quiet Oaks for making her last days with them comfortable and peaceful. She truly had angels watching over her the last few days of her life.
