ST. JOSEPH (AP) -- Twenty-five years after the unsolved kidnapping of Jacob Wetterling, his parents are still coping with heartbreak.

Jacob was 11 years old when he was abducted by a masked gunman while riding his bicycle near his home in St. Joseph.

He hasn't been seen since.

Wednesday will mark the 25th anniversary of his disappearance in 1989.

His mother, Patty Wetterling, says her family was at the center of the storm that ensued, but there were victims all over.

She says it changed the lives of Jacob's sixth-grade classmates as well.

She went on to become a leader in the cause of missing children.

Jacob's father, Jerry Wetterling, says he still thinks of Jacob as an 11-year-old boy, but if he's out there somewhere, he's 36-year-old now.
