ST. CLOUD -- In just 100 days spectators in St. Cloud will get to see outdoor hockey at Lake George.

A flag-raising ceremony was held Thursday to mark the countdown until Hockey Day Minnesota.

Committee Chair Brian Schoenborn says besides the local teams playing they've added a new attraction to the event - the St. Cloud State Alumni Classic.

"To have an Alumni game and honor Herb Brooks' legacy is pretty neat. Bret Hedican and Mark Parish will be the captains and when I talked to them this summer they will really excited to be part of it. It's going to be a great weekend."

The local teams that will be defending St. Cloud’s ice is the men’s and women’s Huskie Hockey teams. High school teams from St. Cloud Cathedral and St. Cloud Co-op will also face-off.

This will be the 12th annual Hockey Day event in Minnesota and the first time woman's hockey will be broadcast live on FSN. The game will feature St. Cloud State Women's hockey team vs Duluth. Head Coach Eric Rud says the game is huge for the program.

"Hockey Day Minnesota has become such a big deal. Last year we were on tape delay so we got a little taste of it, so when this news came out it was a big deal for the girls in our locker room and their families."

Work is underway to get the rink ready in Eastman Park, next to Lake George, for the games that will be played that weekend.
