ALEXANDRIA -  Four NDSU students heading back to school were killed when their car crossed the median on I-94 west of Alexandria yesterday (Monday) afternoon and collided with an SUV going the other way.  Another car then hit the SUV.

It was snowing, visibility was reduced, and the interstate was slippery.

Eighteen-year-old Lauren Peterson of Prior Lake was driving the car that lost control.  She died at the scene, along with her passengers, 19-year-old Jordan Playle of Elk River, 18-year-old Megan Sample of Rogers, and 18-year-old Danielle Renninger of Excelsior.

No word on the conditions of the other two drivers.
