Do you buy this, that, the other thing or wait until Black Friday? Here's your October buying guide.

Cars

New car models are typically released in September, so, according to DealNews.com, dealers start slashing prices on last years models in September, but, those discounts are even deeper come October. Experts say consumers can expect to save 10 to 20 percent on 2013 models.

Vacation

I went on my honeymoon in October of 2011 and the resort was like, deserted. We got buy one get one flights and an upgrade to butler service because we traveled in October. Travel expert Rick Steves says the summer rush is over and the holiday rush hasn't started, so you can get to where you want to go on the cheap.

School Supplies

Sure, you probably loaded up on stuff in August or September, but you're going to be needing more. If not for the kids, the home office will still need supplies. Stores likely stocked up on back to school items this past summer and since that season is long gone and retailers need to make space for Christmas items. Notebooks, thumbtacks, folders and the like will all be headed for the bargain bin.

Outdoor Equipment

If you're into the outdoors, you're going to save big this month. You're not going to find any items on sale that are designed for super cold weather like sleeping bags, but if you're in the market for "mild weather" items, you can save 60 to 75 percent. Tents, campers, lanterns and lawn chairs are all on sale.

iPhone 5 Cases

Apple just released the iPhone 5C and 5S and while the 5S will still fit in an old 5 case, you may run into some problems. The 5S also has a different camera and flash assembly that may be covered by old cases. The 5S has fingerprint identification and the old case doesn't allow for that. Apple also stopped making the iPhone 5, so cases for it are dirt cheap right about now.

What to Wait For

I know if you're like me, when you see a sale, you're like, "It's not going to get any cheaper than that!" So you snap it up only to find out that it DID get cheaper. DANG! If you're looking for cold weather items like scarves, hats, mittens, boots and jackets, hold off until January. Electronics like phones, digital cameras, budget laptops and computers will see the deepest discounts come Black Friday, but if you're looking for a new TV, you're going to have to wait until December or January to get the best deals as manufacturers release their new models in December, so last year's models will be heavily discounted.
