SCSU’s Banaian; Wages Not Going Up at the Same Pace as Inflation
Inflation continues to be in factor for Central Minnesotans with so many products and services going up in price. St. Cloud State Economist and Dean, School of Public Affairs King Banaian joined me on WJON. He indicates the latest ADP report, which processes paychecks, shows wages went up 7.7% and Banaian says inflation is up 8%.

Central Minnesota employers continue to deal with a worker shortage. Gail Cruikshank is the Talent Director for the Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation. She says employers and organizations like hers are working to not only retain the workers they have in the community but to sell possible employees on relocating to the St. Cloud area.

St. Cloud School District 742 is still experiencing a bus driver and substitute teacher shortage. That according to Superintendent Willie Jett. He says the Human Resources office is very busy looking for many open positions that aren't exclusive to the before mentioned positions.

He says the national data indicates that the age group of 20-24 is working less than that age group worked in 2019. Banaian says the shortage in workers doesn't appear to be with teenagers as that age group is back working at a similar level to what they worked in 2019.
