Gopher senior forward/center Trevor Mbakwe has been named the Big Ten player of the week for leading the Gophers to wins over #1 Indiana and last place Penn State. Mbakwe posted double-doubles in both Gopher wins including a season high 21 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Indiana.

The Gopher men's basketball team is ranked #23 this week in the Associated Press top 25 poll and #24 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. The Gophers lost both games last week at Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Mbakwe played just 7 games this season before suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in a tournament game against Dayton. Mbakwe averaged 14.0 points and 9.1 rebounds a game this season.

The injury was suffered Sunday night when the team played in Orlando, Florida in the Old Spice Classic Championship game against Dayton. Mbakwe layed on the court before he was assisted off the court without putting any pressure on the knee.

The more devastating loss is the injury to leading scorer and rebounded Trevor Mbakwe. Mbakwe suffered a severe knee injury early in the 2nd half while positioning himself for a rebound.

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated DePaul 86-85 Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Florida. Trevor Mbakwe had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Rodney Williams chipped in 18 points for Minnesota. The Gophers shot 51 percent from the field and outrebounded the Deamon Deacons 37-24.
