On April 14, 1886, a devastating "cyclone" tore through St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, and Rice, killing 72 people and injuring 213. It's still remembered as Minnesota's deadliest tornado.

This Thursday, Minnesota will host a statewide tornado drill at 1:45 PM and 6:45 PM, helping communities enhance their emergency preparedness during Severe Weather Awareness Week.
The city of Melrose withstood a confirmed EF-1 tornado on Saturday August 3 with damage to portions of the town. The tornado was on the ground for a short period of time from 8:10 - 8:16 p.m. Melrose Mayor Joe Finken joined me on WJON. He explained the tornado had sustained winds of 95 miles per hour which came from the north and moved southeast.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning at 3:40 p.m. for Benton, Stearns and Sherburne Counties until 4:15 Saturday afternoon. This warning was triggered by a radar detected tornado according to Weather Eye Meteorologist Michael Carrow.
The National Weather Service says they have three survey teams out Monday surveying the damage from reported tornadoes, however, Benton county is not one of the areas they are working in.
