The Minnesota Twins plan to honor former manager Tom Kelly with a bronze statue outside of Target Field. The team made the announcement at TwinsFest on Friday night.
The Twins retired former Manager Tom Kelly's #10 in a pregame ceremony before a 3-0 win over the Cleveland Indians. Kelly managed the Twins to two World Series titles in 1987 and 1991. He managed the team for 16 years. Cole DeVries led the Twins attack throwing 6 shutout innings with 4 hits allowed and 2 strikeouts. He gets the win and improves to 5-5. Joe Mauer, Josh Willingham and Justin Morneau each drove in 1 run and Ben Revere had 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.
The Twins will retire the number of longtime Twins manager Tom Kelly during the 2012 season. Kelly managed the Twins to 2 world series titles in 1987 and 1991. He managed the Twins from 1986-1998 and has served as a consultant in the Twins organization since 1998.
