Matt O'Connell ran for two touchdowns and threw for another on Saturday and St. Thomas (Minn.) beat Wisconsin-Oshkosh 28-14 in the Division III national semifinals.
The St. Thomas football team is returning to the NCAA Division III semifinals. The Tommies beat Hobart College of New York 47-7 on Saturday at O'Shaughnessy Stadium in St. Paul to advance and raise their record this season to 13-0.
The St. John's football team hosts rival St. Thomas in both team's MIAC opener Saturday at 1pm at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville. Both teams are 2-0. St. John's is coming off a 3-point win over UW-Eau Claire last Saturday in Eau Claire. Both the Johnnies and Tommies beat UW-Eau Claire by 3 points this season. St. Thomas is ranked #7 in the Nation in the latest Division III poll. St. John's is receiving votes in the top 25 poll.
