Now that the Catholic Church has selected a new Pope, Bishop John Kinney of the St. Cloud Diocese has resumed planning for his retirement. Kinney sent in his letter of resignation when he turned 75 years old last June, which is required by the church.

Bishop John Kinney says Pope Benedict XVI's resignation this (Monday) morning came as a "complete surprise" to him. A Pope resigning hasn't happened in 600 years.

About one third of the 132 parishes in the St. Cloud Diocese will either have a new priest or will be clustered with another parish starting Friday. July First is when the diocese new priest assignments take effect.
