Hundreds of snow plows and salt spreaders are hitting roads and highways across the nation's heartland, preparing for a winter storm that could dump up to a foot of snow in some areas and bring dangerous freezing rain and sleet to others.

The city of St. Cloud has rescinded the snow emergency that was declared after Sunday's snowstorm.

State transportation officials are opening some western Minnesota highways that were closed due to the snow storm. Highway 10 between Moorhead and Audubon reopened Monday, as well as Highway 210 between Fergus Falls and Breckenridge.

The Minnesota State Patrol says, as of 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, they've responded to 239 crashes statewide. Thirty-two of them involved injuries, but none were serious or deadly. They also assisted with 398 incidents where vehicles spun out or left the road. And they also had two semis jacknife.

Heavy snow and strong winds are complicating travel in far southeastern Minnesota. Winds were gusting up to 39 mph in Rochester at 4 p.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service says 7 inches of snow had fallen on Rochester as of noon, while Mantorville had 7.5 inches as of 12:30 p.m.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is gearing up for another round of wintry weather in the Twin Cities this weekend. The National Weather Service is forecasting freezing rain and snow for the metro area that will change to snow between Friday night and late Saturday.

We know St. Cloud officially had eleven inches of snow on Sunday. But how much snow fell in other parts of the state? This map put together by the National Weather Service shows who got the brunt of the storm, and who had lesser amounts.

A slow-moving storm has dumped at least 16 inches of snow on parts of Minnesota, blanketing the Twin Cities, making some rural roads impassable and leading to at least one fatal crash.

The State Patrol says there have have been over 600 crashes statewide, since 9:30 p.m. last (Saturday) night. Sixty-one of those crashes had injuries. There has also been about 1,000 incidents where vehicles spun out, or went into the ditch.

Metrodome officials are making sure the heavy snow in downtown Minneapolis doesn't bring the roof down. It's been almost two years to the day since 17 inches of snow in 24 hours tore holes in the inflatable dome, forcing the Vikings to play the final two games of the season elsewhere.
