The Sauk Rapids-Rice school district has chosen its next principal for Sauk Rapids-Rice High School.

Over two dozen people have applied to be the next superintendent of the Sauk Rapids-Rice school district. Interim Superintendent Bruce Watkins says 28 people are hoping to be the next superintendent at Sauk Rapids-Rice.

Enrollment is skyrocketing in the Sauk Rapids-Rice school district.

Earlier this past month one school district has decided to limit their gym and health classes. The Elk River school board discussed cutting back on physical education and health classes required for graduating for more language and tech classes for grades K-12.

With a lot of items on the agenda, the Sauk Rapids-Rice school board held their organizational meeting this evening (Monday).

Parents and grandparents in the Sauk Rapids-Rice school district who want to volunteer in their child's classroom are now required to pass a background check. Superintendent Dan Bittman says the new policy went into effect on July 1st.

Area schools will soon get additional funding to help pay for all-day kindergarten programs. The state will spend an extra $485 million on schools.

Area superintendents want to reassure parents that their children are safe at school. This is the first day of classes since last Friday's deadly school shooting in Connecticut.

Today's classrooms are a lot more high tech than the old days of blackboards and calculators. Angie Kalthoff is the Technology Integrationist for the St. Cloud Area School District. She says a modern classroom is equipped with Smartboards, which are much more interactive.

The Sauk Rapids-Rice school district is expected to reduce its 2012 budget by about $760,000 dollars when the school board meets tonight. Superintendent Dan Bittman says the cuts are necessary because of a failed levy referendum.
