The Sartell-St. Stephen football team is coming off a successful season which saw them advance to the section 8-5-A championship game. The Sabres were 5-6 in 2022 but did win 3 of their last 4 games including playoff wins over Bemidji and Sauk Rapids-Rice before falling to Moorhead in the section final.
The Sabres hosted Grand Rapids for Homecoming but the game took on added significance as the tragic news of Sartell graduate, Thomas Bearson, stunned the community this week.
The Sartell-St. Stephen football team lost 35-21 Friday night to Moorhead in the Section 8-5A Final in Collegeville. Sartell led 21-7 at halftime before the Spuds outscored the Sabres 28-0 in the 2nd half. Chase Morlock ran for 214 yards and 5 touchdowns for Moorhead. Eric McAfee was held to 66 yards rushing and 1 touchdown for Sartell.
The Sartell-St. Stephen football team will play Moorhead tonight in the Section 8-5A Final at St. John's University in Collegeville at 7pm. The Sabres are seeded #2 and are 7-2 on the season while Moorhead is 9-0 and seeded #1 in the section.

Sartell-St. Stephen 24, Apollo 17
(Apollo led 3-0 at halftime and led 17-10 early in the 4th quarter before Sartell scored the final 2 touchdowns to win it. Parker Hagen threw a 2-yard touchdown pass Matt Worzala as the go-ahead touchdown. Eric McAfee ran for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Sabres.
Week 6 of the High School Football season is tonight. The games on the schedule include Sartell-St. Stephen (4-1) at Tech (3-2) at St. Cloud State's Husky Stadium. The winner of this game will likely be the #2 seed in Section 85A behind top seeded Moorhead. Tech lost 48-40 at home against Moorhead last Friday. Sartell was ranked #10 in the State in Class 5A last week before losing to Fergus Falls.
Week 5 of the High School Football season starts tonight when St. Cloud Tech hosts Moorhead at St. Cloud State's Husky Stadium at 7pm. The Tigers are 3-1 while Moorhead and 4-0 and ranked #7 in the state in this week's Class 5A state poll. Tech is coming off a 28-6 win at Sauk Rapids-Rice last Friday. Tech is led by running back Jacob Peterson who ran for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Storm. The Tigers are playing their home games at SCSU with Clark Field deemed unplayable due to problems with the locker rooms and concession stands.

(Tech led by as many as 34 in the 2nd half before Grand Rapids made a comeback. Jake Peterson ran for 278 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Tigers. Tech is 2-1)

Week 3 of the High School Football season is tonight. The matchups this week include a showdown between Sartell-St. Stephen and Sauk Rapids-Rice, Rocori at Apollo, Grand Rapids at Tech, and Cathedral at Albany. Tech will play a home game at St. Cloud State's Husky Stadium because of mold and lead paint concerns at the Clarke Field concessions stands and in the locker rooms.
