Temperatures hovering around zero degrees and wind gusts around 20 miles per hour did little to stop over 500 people from coming out to the 2015 Polar Plunge this afternoon.
Over 500 people are planning to go jump in a lake on Saturday. The annual "Polar Plunge" is at the Water's Edge restaurant on Pleasant Lake. It's a fundraiser for Special Olympics Minnesota. Spokeswoman Molly Swanson says the money raised goes towards things like scholarships and uniforms for the athletes, plus other programs.
If donning your wackiest costume and jumping into the icy waters of Pleasant Lake in rural St. Cloud is your idea of fun, then you need to be at The 6th Annual Polar Plunge.
The conditions were less than balmy, but the 2011 St. Cloud Polar Plunge was a huge success. Over 500 plungers raised more than $70,000 for the Special Olympics of Minnesota.
