Fans attending a hockey game this season at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center should notice some major upgrades.

Construction work on St. Cloud State University's National Hockey Center will close a one block section of Herb Brooks Way.

St. Cloud State University is beginning a $30 million renovation of the aging National Hockey Center. The facility that opened in December of 1989 is the home of the Husky's Division I men's and women's hockey programs.

The long awaited groundbreaking for the National Hockey Center renovation is happening tomorrow (Friday). The ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the center ice of the main rink.

St. Cloud State University got state bonding money to renovate the National Hockey Center four years ago. However, up until now very little has gotten done on the project. University officials hope the pieces will finally be in place to break ground in March, as soon as this hockey season is done.

St. Cloud State University has been given $42 million in bonding money to build a new Science and Engineering Lab. The money is part of a $500 million bonding bill approved by the state legislature this week.

The plan to renovate the National Hockey Center has hit a road block. St. Cloud State University President Earl Potter says the I-R-S brought some concerns about the project to the Minnesota Attorney General.
