The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has hired a longtime fisheries specialist to oversee Lake Mille Lacs. Central Region Fisheries Supervisor Brad Parsons says Lake of the Woods Fisheries Supervisor Tom Heinrich has been tabbed to fill the new position in Garrison.
Plenty of healthy bass is why Mille Lacs lake has been named the best lake in the country for bass fishing. Out of 12 other lakes, Mille Lacs ranks as number one by Bassmaster Magazine due to its high number of healthy smallmouth bass.
Gov. Mark Dayton will travel to Mille Lacs Lake for the bass season opener on May 27. With the popular lake's walleye population struggling, Dayton is going to Mille Lacs to highlight how it has become one of the top lakes in the U.S. for smallmouth bass.
