Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe

Monte Fronk, a member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, will be telling the story of his late daughter on the campus of St. Cloud State University on Thursday.

The federal government has agreed to assume greater responsibility for prosecuting crimes on the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe's reservation in east-central Minnesota, at the request of the tribal government.

Work continues on a new resort on the western shore of Lake Mille Lacs. The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe is spending about $10 million to build a new Eddy's Resort. Spokesman Jo Nayquonabe says the project was delayed this spring, because of the bad weather, which has pushed back the opening date from this fall to next spring.

The Mille Lacs Band Of Ojibwe has announced plans for a major redevelopment project on Lake Mille Lacs. Spokesman Joe Nayquonabe says they plan to raise the entire Eddy's Resort property, and build a new first-class resort.

The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe is buying two big hotels in St. Paul. Tribal leaders say the purchase is a new effort to diversify the band's holdings beyond gaming revenue.

A Brainerd man has been sentenced for embezzling more than $600,000 from the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. A federal judge sentenced 31-year-old Eric Makowski to 2-and-a-half years in prison on one count of embezzlement from a tribal organization.

Snowmobile enthusiasts can ride with the Minnesota Vikings this weekend. The 16th annual Arctic Blast Snowmobile Rally is tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday at Mille Lacs Lake. It's co-sponsored by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and the Vikings.
