WJON's series "My Life" takes a look at the life of longtime NFL official Mike Spanier. Mike was a NFL official for 21 seasons before retiring last month. He officiated both basketball and football at the college and high school level.

Sartell's Mike Spanier is retiring from the NFL after 21 seasons in the league. Sunday's Pro Bowl will be his final game. Mike was hired by Jerry Seeman in 1999. He wore #90 and worked as a line judge.

As Sartell-St. Stephen students head to their first day of school today (Tuesday), the districts new interim superintendent heads to his first day of work. Mike Spanier was selected by the school board in July as the interim superintendent of Sartell-St. Stephen for the 2013-14 school year, after the previous superintendent resigned.

The NFL Officials have an agreement to end the lockout with the NFL and Sartell's Mike Spanier is one of the officials heading back to work this weekend. Mike is a line judge and has been assigned to work the Carolina at Atlanta game this Sunday. The officials will gather in Dallas for a referees clinic on Friday and will vote Saturday morning to ratify the new agreement between the officials union and the NFL.

Never have officials from a sports league been so welcome. A tentative agreement was reached last (Wednesday) night between the NFL and its officials, ending the labor dispute between the two sides.

The NFL regular season kicks-off tonight (Wednesday) and for the first time in 14 years Mike Spanier of Sartell will spending the weekend at home, instead of on the field. Spanier is a longtime NFL referee.
