Sauk Rapids' new mayor has officially been sworn-in. Kurt Hunstiger took the oath of office during Monday night's city council meeting. He says getting the field house project moving forward again is a top priority for him this year.

Sauk Rapids residents interested in joining the city council can apply to be appointed. During Monday night's meeting, the council decided to accept letters of interest from residents to fill the remaining two years of council member Kurt Hunstiger's seat.

A Sauk Rapids city council member has been elevated to the position of mayor. Kurt Hunstiger has defeated newcomer Guy Konietzko 60 percent to 39 percent.

Sauk Rapids voters will elect a new mayor in the General Election on Tuesday. Current mayor Brad Gunderson was eliminated from the race during the Primary Election back in August. He received the fewest votes among the three men on the ballot.
