Another step forward in the plan to bring Google to central Minnesota. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission Tuesday approved Xcel Energy's request to provide wind energy to the planned large data center.
It is still far from a done deal but the plan to attract tech giant Google to central Minnesota took another step forward Tuesday night. The Becker City Council unanimously approved Google's 20-year tax abatement request.
Touting the overall economic impact on the region, supporters of the Google Data Center project spoke to the Becker city Council Tuesday night. The council held a public hearing on Google's request for a 20-year tax abatement on the property.
A bill has been introduced in the Minnesota Senate that would help Becker make improvements to their business park, as they try to lure Google to town. Republican Senator Andrew Mathews' bill would invest $20.1 million for infrastructure improvements.
