An investigation by the Stearns County Attorney's Office into the death of a man who shot and killed an Aitkin County Sheriff's Deputy at St. Cloud Hospital determined no charges will be filed against a hospital security officer who tased him.

The community of Aitkin and law enforcement from all over Minnesota are mourning the loss of Aitkin County Deputy Steven Sandberg, who was fatally shot Sunday at St. Cloud Hospital by the domestic violence defendant he was monitoring.

Aitkin County's sheriff says the man charged with kidnapping and terrorizing his wife was not under arrest when he grabbed a deputy's gun at a St. Cloud hospital and fatally shot him.

A man who killed an Aitkin County Sheriff's deputy over the weekend had been sought just a week earlier for allegedly terrorizing his wife. A criminal complaint says Danny Leroy Hammond locked his wife inside and aimed a pistol at her after she said she was leaving him.
