St. John's Abbey Arboretum is soon allowing in bow hunters in an effort to control the deer population.

Wildlife managers are seeking public input on revised deer population goals for southwestern and north-central Minnesota. Earlier this year, the DNR worked with three stakeholder teams to help re-determine deer population goals in 12 permit areas in the southwest and 10 permit areas in north-central Minnesota.

Amid complaints by hunters, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says it will begin reassessing its deer population goals this spring.

This year's particularly harsh winter has hit northern Minnesota's deer population hard. And if spring doesn't kick in soon, even the survivors could be in trouble.
