Crews are working from the ground and air to try to stop a prescribed fire that escaped from its containment lines in the Superior National Forest west of Ely.

If you live near Camp Ripley and see smoke or fire over the camp, do not be alarmed.

As catastrophic forest fires burn across the western United States, forest managers in northern Minnesota are laying the groundwork for a deliberate fire in hopes of preventing similar blazes.

For those of you who live near Camp Ripley, expect to see and smell smoke over the next several days. The Camp Ripley Fire Department will conduct controlled burns today (Monday) through Friday, between the hours of noon and 8:00 p.m.
