Apollo Football

The high school football pairing in section 85A and section 53A have been released. In section 85A Moorhead is the #1 seed, Sartell-St. Stephen is the #2 seed, Apollo is seeded #3, Tech is #4, Alexandria is #5 and Sauk Rapids-Rice is seeded #6. The top two seeds get a first round bye with #6 Sauk Rapids-Rice playing at #3 Apollo at 7pm Tuesday night. #5 Alexandria will play at #4 Tech at 8:15pm at SCSU Tuesday night.

Rocori 26, Tech 13 (Rocori outscored Tech 20-0 in the 2nd half after trailing 13-6 at halftime. Alex Austad ran for 87 yards on 15 carries and 2 touchdowns for Rocori. Brad Fabel threw a 29-yards touchdown pass to Derek Kuechle in the first half. Jacob Peterson was held to 50 yards rushing on 17 carries with a 22-yard touchdown run. Peterson injured his right leg on the last play of the first half and did not return to the game.

Apollo 26, Tech 20 (Kyle Rosenthal ran for 122 yards including a 20-yard touchdown run that turned out to be the game-winner. Apollo outscored Tech 13-0 in the 4th quarter. Jake Peterson ran for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns for Tech. Tech has lost 3 games in a row and is now 3-4. Ben Alvord threw for 203 yards and 2 touchdowns including a 80-yard touchdown pass. Apollo has won 2 games in a row and is 2-5. Tech hosts Rocori next Wednesday and Apollo plays at Fergus Falls next Wednesday).

Tonight is Week 7 of the High School Football Regular season and the featured matchup in the St. Cloud area is Tech at Apollo at 7pm. The Tigers are 3-3 after are coming off back to back loses where they've lead in the 4th quarter. Apollo is coming off a 9-6 win at Sauk Rapids-Rice. The win snapped a 22-game losing streak for the school.

#7 Moorhead 48, Tech 40 (Tech led 20-6 in the first half and 27-20 at halftime. Jacob Peterson had a hand in all 6 Tech touchdowns. He ran for 4 touchdowns, returned a kick for a score and threw a touchdown pass to quarterback Jay Kedrowski. Tech falls to 3-2. Moorhead is 5-0 and has the inside track for the #1 or #2 seed in Section 85A)

The Apollo Eagles were 0-9 in 2011 under head coach Justin Skallerud. Apollo suffered a 21-20 loss at home against Willmar late in the season which shows the improvement made throughout the season. The Eagles are a young team against with 44 freshman out, 40 sophomore and around 20 juniors and 20 seniors.

The high school football regular season wraps up tonight when rivals Apollo (0-7) and Tech (5-2) do battle at Clark Field at 7pm, pregame on WJON at 6:50. Joe Clemence calls the action tonight. Tech with a win would share the Central Lakes Conference title.

Fergus Falls 45, Apollo 13 (Nam Nguyen had 13 carries for 148 yards and 1 touchdown with 5 catches for 78 yards for Apollo). Rogers 33, Sauk Rapids-Rice 0 (Zac Judovsky had 37 yards rushing on 8 carries for the Storm. Sauk Rapids had no pass completions)
