The Apollo football team looks improve on last season's 1-8 season with plenty of experience returning. Apollo head coach Michael Beehler joined me on WJON. He says they return a bunch of 3-year starters. Senior Davion Jackson returns as the starting quarterback for the Eagles.
The Apollo Eagles ended the regular season with a 45-7 loss to Zimmerman at home Wednesday night. Apollo is 1-7 heading into the playoffs, which start Tuesday.
The 2nd week of the high school football season will take place tonight. Area games include Tech hosting Apollo at the new Tiger Stadium on the new Tech High School campus. Tech is 0-1 after falling 28-21 at Hutchinson last week while Apollo downed St. Francis at home 31-24.

Sartell-St. Stephen 24, Apollo 17
(Apollo led 3-0 at halftime and led 17-10 early in the 4th quarter before Sartell scored the final 2 touchdowns to win it. Parker Hagen threw a 2-yard touchdown pass Matt Worzala as the go-ahead touchdown. Eric McAfee ran for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Sabres.
The High School Football section quarterfinals will be played tonight throughout the area. AM 1390-the Fan will broadcast the section 85A quarterfinal game between Sauk Rapids-Rice and St. Cloud Apollo. The Eagles have won 3 straight games and are 3-5 while Sauk Rapids-Rice is 1-7. Apollo beat Sauk Rapids-Rice earlier this season 9-6 to at the time snap their 22-game school losing streak. The Eagles have since beat Tech and Fergus Falls.
