State Lottery Manager Accused of 2nd DUI

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The executive director of the Minnesota Lottery says a second drunken driving charge against one of his top administrators is a personnel matter that's under review.

Ed Van Petten said Thursday the lottery's assistant director Johnene Canfield is still employed by the agency and that the matter has had no effect on lottery operations.

The chairwoman of the legislative committee overseeing the lottery, DFL Sen. Patricia Torres Rays, is concerned that lawmakers weren't told about the case against Canfield. A criminal complaint alleges Canfield was driving drunk when she crossed the center line in Oakdale last December, struck an oncoming vehicle head-on and seriously injured a 73-year-old man.

Van Petten says legislators were not contacted because it's an ongoing personnel matter. He says Minnesota Management and Budget, which oversees state employee relations, is reviewing the case.
