ST. CLOUD - With another school year in full swing, St. Cloud State University is hard at work keeping its student population safe.

St. Cloud State has two new appointments related to safety on campus. Kevin Whitlock is the new director of St. Cloud State Public Safety and Jesse Cashman is taking over a new position as assistant vice president for safety and risk management.

Recently, 100 St. Cloud State students were given citations during move in weekend. Cashman says the University isn't worried and that the spike in citations is likely due to an increased effort by St. Cloud Police.

Cashman says the Public Safety Department hopes to educate students about rules and laws in place early on during the school year.

The department will also plan to update students and faculty about safety information in the surrounding area through the school year.

Cashman adds that Public Safety's partnership with the St. Cloud Police Department has been beneficial for the University and surrounding areas.

Last year, Public Safety started working with several full-time St. Cloud Police officers on campus as part of a contract with the University.
