ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud area school district has their eye on a new piece of property for a possible new high school.

The school district has agreed to a six-month option agreement on 185 acres of land in St. Augusta, about one-mile south of Interstate 94.

Executive Director Kevin Januszewski says the district put down $9,000 on the property, which means the landowner can't sell it for six months.  The purchase price is $750,000.  The school board is expected to discuss whether or not to buy the land at their upcoming school board meetings.

The St. Cloud Area School district also owns 68 acres of land along 33rd Street South, near Highway 15, in St. Cloud. And another 70 acres of land in Haven Township. Januszewski says the Haven Township property would most likely be used for a potential future elementary school.

The district is expected to put a referendum on the ballot next spring for a possible new high school.

The land that is not used for new buildings would most likely be sold.
